  • Break-in While We Were Home

At approximately 9:45 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2024, my wife and I were just turning in for the night.  Our lights were out, our cars were in the driveway and we had gotten into bed.  A few minutes later we heard a noise, but weren't sure what or where it was.  We waited a few minutes and heard it again.  It sounded very close, perhaps even down the hall in our guest room.  We got up, turned on the lights and walked down to the guest room at the other end of the house.  As I walked down the hall I thought I saw lights outside but near the house.  I made a cursory inspection and didn't see anything.  I walked the perimeter of the house and again didn't see anything.  We checked the doors, locked one that was unlocked and went back to bed,

The following morning my wife made a more thorough inspection of the guest suite and found that doors and drawers in a cabinet had been opened and ransacked.  One or more intruders had been in the house.  They apparently hopped the wall in our back yard, gained entry through an unlocked door and came in while we were in bed.  They fled when we turned on the lights and headed that way.

We notified the Sheriff that morning, they came and dusted for prints and advised us that they have a service that includes a perimeter check once a week if you are out of town.

We have installed a security system including motion detector lights and have now been leaving exterior lights on all night as well as locking all entrances. Thank-you for making our neighbors aware.
